Overview of services

Please contact me to arrange a free initial 20 minute telephone consultation if you have any worries about your child’s development or SEND. I can also provide a free initial video call if you would prefer.

I offer support to families for a wide range of early years, child development and special educational needs. Be it behaviour, social difficulties, potty training, sleep and many other areas, I am here to help. I have a wealth of experience with children with pre-existing medical and developmental conditions, such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Sensory Impairments, so if you would like further support with your child with a pre-existing diagnosis please get in touch. I can also offer bespoke support if a service you require is not listed below.

The packages of support I offer are:

Home visit and written report with recommendations - Advice package 1

Insightful Beginnings - Louise Herbert - Support for Parents

I will visit your home at a mutually convenient time, allowing me to gain a better understanding of your child's development and any general concerns you may have. During the visit, I will observe your child as they engage in play and interact with you and other family members. Following the visit, I will provide you with a written report containing my observations and recommendations. It's important to note that my role is not to make specific diagnoses but to offer practical strategies to support your child and your family. If necessary, I may suggest consulting with other professionals or direct you to relevant charitable organisations. I'm pleased to offer evening and weekend appointments to accommodate your schedule.

Home and setting visits and written report with recommendations - Advice package 2

Insightful Beginnings - Louise Herbert - Support for Parents

If your child attends an early years setting, such as a nursery or childminder, it is important that any recommendations put in place are implemented similarly in both places. Some children display similar difficulties at home and in setting, but many children who attend early years settings behave differently at home than they do in their setting. If you are puzzled by this, I may be able to help you. This package of support includes all the elements of Advice Package 1, plus an additional visit to your child's early years setting and discussions with their key worker. The written report will include recommendations for implementation both at home and in the early years setting to ensure consistency and support your child's development.

EHCP initial request for assessment

'If your child has or may have special educational needs and it may be necessary for special educational provision to be made in accordance with an Education, Health and Care Plan' (Children and Families Act Part 3, Section 36 (8),  I can help you complete an initial request for assessment letter to your local authority. Please note that my support does not guarantee that the Local Authority will agree to assess, but I will be honest if I am not sure your child meets the test for assessing.

Information and Training for Parents

Parenting can be a minefield and children don’t come with an instruction manual, so good advice can be hard to find without spending hours on Google. Please check this website and Insightful Beginnings' social media for upcoming training and information for parents. Sessions will be friendly and informative and will include:

  • The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) explained
  • Preparing your child for school
  • Understanding phonics
  • The 2-year progress check
  • How to support my child with Down Syndrome
  • How to support my child with Autism
  • How do I know if my child is experiencing sensory differences or difficulties?
  • How to support my child with a vision impairment?
  • Cerebral vision impairment
  • SEND law for parents
  • Sleep
  • Potty training

Please let me know if there is any aspect of early years, child development or SEND not covered here that you would like further information on. A bespoke support package can be put in place to support you and your child.
